Geo.Eynon Watercolours

George Eynon-a brief biography

I grew up in the UK, in suburban North West London, in the proverbial council flat and house for the first ten years of my life. One developed a vivid imagination playing in the suburbs-my playground was the local streets and back alleys, and the ubiquitous little bits of green space and recreation parks.

Even as a small boy I turned that imagination inwards a great deal, especially riding my five-speed bike alone for tens of miles and hours on end. I was a voracious reader-a peculiarity in the neighbourhood-and also spent a lot of time drawing and doodling. At school, the time drawing and painting in Art classes turned into something of a passion that has lasted the whole of my life.

Later, at Grammar school, I might have suffered much teasing and bullying about my paintings in school art festivals-and the huge mural in the corridor near the gym entrance-if I had not been the feisty little scrum-half who captained the school rugby team.

After a BSc from London University and an MSc from McMaster University I moved to Calgary and joined the oil industry. I met Joyce almost immediately, and we were married almost immediately. We have enjoyed the benefits of a varied international as well as Canadian oil industry career. We lived and worked in Chicago twice (two US-born daughters), Norway twice, and in Canada the rest of the time. I have had a varied career with major companies, a couple of juniors, several consulting firms, and an energy economics think tank. I have done lots with my professional and industry associations.

All the while my love of art-among other things-has only grown. In my early 50s I decided to spend more time on my own interests. Having threatened for years to take up watercolours, Joyce enrolled me in a continuing ed. basics course. I took to it like anatidae to aquarelles.

The rest, as they say, is history...
